Gum recession exposes the root of your teeth. This is usually caused by aggressive brushing of teeth, genetics, teeth alignment, and other factors. The root exposure causes your teeth to be sensitive to hold and cold. The exposed layer of the tooth is very sensitive and softer, so if left untreated, it can cause further damage.
